Today, the cool girl made friends with the famous girl.
Julie was the most well-liked girl in school. The boys wanted her badly, and the girls looked up to her.
In math, she sat next to Danny, but she really didn't want to. Danny was the "weirdo" in class. He had trouble getting along with other people, smelled a little funny, and always read manga and comics during study time. Julie would sometimes try to start a talk with him, but she would quickly feel bad about it when she was met with awkward tension and awkward silences.
Julie would make fun of him with her friends behind his back. She didn't know why, but it probably made her feel better about herself. In response, her friends would make fun of him in public. Anything to make her like them. She felt bad that she let them act out, but it made her feel good to know that they would be watching her all the time.
She would tell herself that it would make him stronger.
Julie chose that today would be different, though. She meant to be nice to Danny today.
"Hi Danny, how are you today?"
"Hi Julie, I'm fine."
There was a long period of silence.
Say, "Whatcha got there?"
"Oh, it's nothing, just a silly comic book," she said.
"Let me see, I don't think it's stupid!"
It looked like she was interested as she turned the pages.
