The Year No One On Earth Died
This water doesn't taste right. It's a surprise that the water is back on, so I shouldn't be upset. Also, the fact that we still have power. Just over a year has passed since governments around the world began to notice that death rates were going down. After another month, they found out that death rates around the world had stopped going up or down. No one has been able to figure out how it happened yet, whether it was a supernatural event or a scary natural occurrence. No matter what, it's the disaster that no one saw coming.
Of course, people got sick, had accidents, and were attacked last year; it’s just that no one died. But birth rates kept going up and up. Soon, hospitals were overcrowded, the number of homeless people went through the roof, and the world became overpopulated. As a result, food, water, power, and other basic goods began to run out.
All of a sudden, the TV in the living room starts up on its own. I go in and look around. A message for emergencies. There has to be something going on. It comes straight from the Oval Office.
She is sitting at her desk. She nervously moves the papers around on the table.
